Introduction
Tunghai University is located at the foothills of Dadu Mountain in Taichung. It enjoys convenient transportation, making it easily accessible for students coming from both the north and the south. The campus environment is tranquil and comfortable, surrounded by lush greenery, providing a natural setting for learning and growth. The surrounding area offers various amenities such as night markets, supermarkets, restaurants, and hospitals, making off-campus life convenient. Tunghai University actively cultivates a warm and friendly campus atmosphere, aiming to support students in their comprehensive learning and development. It is a university that emphasizes both high-level humanistic thinking and holistic education.
The Department of Electrical Engineering at Tunghai University aims to produce "high-tech professionals with humanistic qualities," distinguishing itself from other electrical engineering departments by not merely focusing on creating thoughtless machines. In terms of curriculum, the department centers around three main axes:Smart+,、Industry+,and Technology+.These serve as the focal points for development. The curriculum incorporates AI technology to deepen teaching and introduces industry resources to help students understand industry needs. The department provides students with courses that are both deep and broad, combining theory and hands-on experience. In addition to imparting specialized knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, there is a strong emphasis on cultivating students' abilities to think critically, innovate, and collaborate within a team. Through general education and minor courses, students develop a macroscopic perspective and a comprehensive international outlook. The Department of Electrical Engineering at Tunghai University is in close proximity to the Central Taiwan Science Park, Precision Machinery Technology Park, and Taichung Industrial Park, fostering a strong connection between faculty, students, and industries. With a well-structured curriculum and training, graduates are equipped with competitive skills for employment. The main pathways for graduates include further education, employment, overseas study, and entrepreneurship.
History of the Department
In response to the substantial demand for electronic and electrical engineering talents in the central region of Taiwan, Tunghai University established the Department of Electrical Engineering in 2007. This department is affiliated with the College of Engineering and offers programs for undergraduate and graduate students. The department focuses on the development of communication technology, integrated circuit design, semiconductor technology, and smart Internet of Things (IoT). Emphasizing the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical applications, it aims to cultivate talents that align with the needs of the industry.
Development Goals
The establishment of our department is characterized by uniqueness, idealism, and responsiveness to demand. The future development direction aims to achieve the following five major goals through teaching, research, and service:
1. Cultivate students with fundamental knowledge in electrical engineering and proficiency in practical application skills.
2. Develop students' abilities to explore, analyze, and solve problems.
3. Foster in students an attitude towards self-growth and a willingness and capability for lifelong learning.
4. Equip students with communication and coordination skills, a team-oriented spirit, and a sense of engineering ethics.
5. Cultivate students with an international perspective and a multicultural mindset.
Research and Teaching Directions
In order to balance the future trends in industrial development and the environment of our university, the Department has identified four major development areas, including Communication and Networking, Integrated Circuit Design, Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering, and Smart Internet of Things (IoT).
The specific development goals and characteristics for each area are outlined as follows:
Communication and Networking Area:Focus on communication system design, 5G/B5G/6G technologies, radio frequency/microwave/millimeter-wave circuit design, in-vehicle communication and networking technologies, network security, IoT, and ultra-high-frequency antenna design.
Integrated Circuit Design Area:Concentrate on digital/analog VLSI design, VLSI signal processing and design, communication integrated circuit design, and SIP/SoC system integration chip design.
Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering Area:Explore the unique physical and chemical properties of materials at the nanoscale, applying them to advanced green energy, optoelectronics engineering, medical engineering, and semiconductor technologies.
Smart Internet of Things (IoT) Area:Respond to the transformation needs of traditional industries by incorporating technologies such as IoT, big data, and virtual/real systems into industries.
Prospects after Graduation
Advanced Studies:Graduates from the undergraduate program in our department can pursue advanced degrees through recommended admissions or graduate school examinations at various relevant research institutions both domestically and internationally.
Employment:The university is strategically located near the "Taichung Science Park," "Taichung Industrial Park," "Taichung Aerospace Industrial Park," "Taichung Software Park," "Taichung Port-Related Industrial Zone," and "Taichung Precision Machinery Park." Whether in the development of high-tech industries, digital transformation of enterprises, upgrading traditional industries, or the growth of emerging industries, there is a substantial demand for talents in the field of electrical engineering. Graduates can also consider employment opportunities through civil service exams, which offer many positions related to electrical engineering.
International Opportunities:The department encourages students to pursue international development. Students have the option to study for degrees at sister universities affiliated with our school
Entrepreneurship:Graduates from our department, based on their respective expertise and interests, can choose to venture into entrepreneurship. They may draw inspiration from their academic projects and designs during their time at the university.
